The Pentair Sand Dollar EC-145320 SD40 Top Mount Sand Filter offers an affordable, durable, and efficient option for small residential pools and spas. With a flow rate of 40 GPM and a filtration area of 1.8 sq. ft., it is designed for pools up to 28,800 gallons. Its one-piece thermoplastic tank is built to resist corrosion, pool chemicals, and harsh outdoor conditions, ensuring long-lasting reliability season after season.

Using #20 silica sand as the filter media, the SD40 provides clear, sparkling water by trapping fine debris between sand particles. The system is equipped with a six-function, 1½” top-mounted multi-port valve that makes operation simple, including filtering, backwashing, rinsing, recirculating, and draining. An integrated pressure gauge and manual air relief valve make monitoring and adjustments easy, while the combination water and sand drain simplifies servicing and winterization. Compact and service-friendly, the SD40 delivers proven Pentair performance in a smaller footprint.

Note: Pool water is routed through the sand-filled pressure vessel. The sand traps particles so small they are undetectable to the naked eye. Over time, dirt accumulates in the spaces between the sand particles, causing the pressure in the vessel to rise. This signals you to “backwash” the filter by simply reversing the water flow and “knocking out” the dirt.
